Be The First

April 6, 2009 by C.S. Hughes · 10 Comments

Be the first

My older brother Tony was the first in our family to graduate from college. I always thought that was so cool… to be the first. He received the first ever degree in many generations of our family, and still, one of the very few today.

My brother Mike was the first Doctor in our family. I say first, because my other brother Dave, Mike’s identical twin, also became a Doctor shortly thereafter. They are the first Doctors ever in the Hughes line, that I’m aware of.

I have always wanted to be the first at something. And there are a few things I have been first at, but nothing I’m really proud of. Read more

My Definition of Personal Development

November 23, 2008 by C.S. Hughes · 5 Comments

Before I discovered personal development, I thought the whole self-help industry was a scam. I thought it was all about just selling books and tapes to stupid and emotionally unstable people. I remember being in a book store and seeing the “self help” section and thinking to myself, Read more

The Secret

September 12, 2008 by C.S. Hughes · 1 Comment

Rhonda Byrne felt like her life was crumbling around her. She had hit rock bottom. One day she came home to discover a gift her daughter left her. It was a book, The Science of Getting Rich. She read the book, and for the first time in her life, learned that there was truly a secret to success. If the secret she learned was real, it was not only limited to success, but anything else a person could ever want. If the secret worked, the love, the money, the health, the fame, the car, the house, the success, the goal, anything she wanted would be hers. And, it can be yours too. Read more

How I Discovered Personal Development (Part 3 of 3)

September 12, 2008 by C.S. Hughes · 2 Comments

Personal Development This article is continued from part 2.

It was a recording of a seminar that Jack Canfield did. Jack is the co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, as well as many other best-selling books. And, later, he became one of the Secret teachers on the movie The Secret. I learned “the secret” of attracting anything you want into your life, way before there was a video about it.

I listened to those two tapes over, and over, and over. It was all so new to me, and so exciting. All this talk about positive mental attitude, positive self talk, affirmations, Read more

Personal Development

This article is continued from part 1.

The next day, I went down for an interview. It was no interview at all. It was he and his business partner standing in the door way of their office just shootin’ the bull with me. After a few minutes, he said, “I like you. If you want the job it’s yours.” I said yes and was hired on the spot. I started the next day. Read more

How to Overcome Your Fears

Face your fears

In my life, I’ve been scared a lot. I’ve dealt with fear in just about everything I’ve done. It’s a very powerful force in most people’s life. I don’t know that it’s power ever completely leaves us, at least in my experience. It certainly doesn’t control me like it once did, but it, or something related to it, still shows up from time to time.
