How I Discovered Personal Development (Part 3 of 3)

This article is continued from part 2.It was a recording of a seminar that Jack Canfield did. Jack is the co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, as well as many other best-selling books. And, later, he became one of the Secret teachers on the movie The Secret. I learned “the secret” of attracting anything you want into your life, way before there was a video about it.
I listened to those two tapes over, and over, and over. It was all so new to me, and so exciting. All this talk about positive mental attitude, positive self talk, affirmations, visualization, victory logs, deciding what you want and making it crystal clear in your mind, the law of attraction and many, many more keys to success that I had never even heard mentioned prior to listening to these tapes. I can tell you this, without any hesitation, that it was those two tapes that lead me to the success I have achieved so far in life. And, any success I have from here on out will be because of those two tapes. They were the catalyst for my success. (By the way, the talk he gave on these two tapes was an abbreviation of his 6 CD set, Maximum Confidence. If you do not have this CD set in your library, I highly encourage you to get it. You will be amazed at how powerful they are, and how quickly your life can change.)
After listening to these tapes, who knows how many times, I was hooked. I was a full blown addict. I couldn’t stop listening to them, and other tapes I got my hands on. I did what Brian Tracy teaches, and turned my car into a University on wheels. If I was in the car, I was listening to something positive, something educational, something that would reshape my own personal philosophy and help me to succeed. I couldn’t stop reading. It was all I ever wanted to do. I read every spare minute I had. I got rid of my TV. I read in the morning. I read at night. I read in the bath, over breakfast, in my car, and at my lunch breaks. If I had one minute of discretionary time, I was reading.
And, even more importantly than just reading, listening and learning, I was applying. I was doing the things I was learning. And as a result my life shifted radically for the better. This is one of the reasons I recommend that everyone start a h-ome b-based b-usiness (HBB). Most of them are great learning grounds for success, and give you a place to “try out” the stuff that you are learning, so as to not become an educated derelict. (Here’s another reason to start a HBB.)
This path that I went down, lead me to Jim Rohn, who, in my opinion, is the most incredible personal development speaker and philosopher on the planet. He teaches that anyone who goes on an intensified learning curve, (keyword being intensified) can have dramatic success in a short period of time. Now looking back, that’s exactly what I did during this process, but didn’t know it at the time. I epxerienced my own intensified learning curve. I have other mentors and teachers who teach to read a few pages a day of a good book, and listen to positive audios for a few minutes every day, and to attend seminars every 90 days or so. Doing so will help you become successful overtime. And though I agree with this recipe, it is not what I did. I did as another teacher of mine has taught, that when you are in the mud, you don’t want to crawl out, you want to EXPLODE OUT! That’s what I did. I was in the mud of life, and so to get out quickly and painlessly, I didn’t waste any time. I exploded out of the mud!
Let me put it this way. If you want to learn a language, the absolute best way to get it done is to immerse yourself in it. Meaning, you would move to a country where everyone there speaks that language. You would live the language, not just learn it. Now of course you can learn it studying it here and there, a little every day. But if you want to master it and master it quickly, you need to immerse yourself. It’s the same with personal development and success. If you want to have success gradually over the next 10-40 years, then get on a few pages a day curriculum. But if you need to EXPLODE out of the mud of life, if you want out of a terrible place, and you want to do it quickly, then you must immerse yourself in personal development books, audios and seminars. You must immerse yourself with successful people and environments. That’s what I did, and if you have read many of my articles on this blog, you know the rest of the story. And that, is how I discovered personal development.
