How to be More Productive Than 90% of the Population
8:14 am, August 28, 2008 by C.S. Hughes
This article is more for fun than anything else. But if you can see through the teasing, you will most certainly discover how to become more productive than 90% of the population. And if this article rattles your cage, I want to hear about it. Post your comments and rants and raves below. Enjoy and let the debate begin!
One day in college, I was at a friends house putting the finishing touches on a 13-page research paper on attention deficit disorder, and the pros and cons of Ritalin, a popular drug used to treat it’s symptoms. I happened to be working on a PC (not a Macintosh), when the computer inexplicably froze up. No worries, right? I had it saved. I rebooted, but my 13-page paper was gone! As long and hard as I looked…nothing! My utter disdain for the entire PC world exploded into full bloom on that day.
When it comes to personal computing, you basically have two choices. PC’s (like the masses use) or Macintosh’s (like the classes use).
My hatred (that’s a strong word) for PC’s started when that demon gobbled up my research paper and almost ruined my life. (Note: I had a printed copy of my paper, and retyped it on a more reliable computer, a Mac.) But my love affair with Macs started when I was 12 years old, in 1984, when my dad surprised the family for Christmas, with the worlds first ever Macintosh. Even in 1984, you could pull it out of the box, plug it in and be playing games or typing a memo within a minute or two. I was as dazzled then, as I am now 24 years later.
In 24 years of owning a Macintosh, I have never gotten a virus, it has never acted crazy and possessed, I’ve never had to take it to the shop for mystery problems, I’ve never had a computer guy come over to “fix” my Mac, and, it has never eaten any of my research. What’s more, they are as reliable when they’re old, as they were when they were new. As a matter of fact, I am typing on a near six year old Mac laptop. It still has as much computing power and speed as a brand new PC…if not more. And, it’s never had a virus.
If I had a $10 bill for every time I have heard my business partners or associates say one of the following comments, I’d be a very, very rich man.
My computer is in the shop.
My computer has a virus.
My computer is acting weird.
Satan has possessed my computer.
There’s something wrong with my computer.
I don’t know why, but my computer is running so slow.
My computer is driving me crazy.
I hate this Pile of Crap! (PC)
So, how do you become more productive than 90% of the population? Get a Macintosh. All of the above statements were made by PC users, not Mac users. How can you be productive in the business world when your computer has a virus? Or it’s running slow? Or, it’s in the shop? I have literally made thousands of dollars on my Mac, during the same period of time my good friend had his PC in the shop. Same business…different results. I was more productive. I have a Mac.
Think about it? Aren’t all your Mac buddies obnoxious? They are known to be egocentric, braggadocios and even arragant about being a Mac user. They are always saying things like…
I love my Mac!
My computer rocks!
Once you go MAC, you never go BACK!
Mac to the future!
If aint a MAC, take it back.
PC by nature, but MAC by choice!
Macs are the best computers in the world, and anyone who doesn’t have one is to be pitied (or something like that).

When was the last time you heard someone say,
I friggin’ love my Dell!
Man, I am in love with my Gateway!
These PCs are the best!
This is one doggone slick PC!
I’ll give you a minute….
OK, times up!
PC users aren’t fanatics about their machines. To them, it’s just a computer. But Mac users are Mac evangelists. People call Apple Incorporated (maker of the Macintosh) founder, Sir Steve Jobs, a cult leader, since he has such a strong following. But this is just the competitions way of dealing with the fact that they don’t possess his leadership, nor technological prowess and vision. There is a reason for the madness folks. Not only are Macs better on the inside, they are prettier too. Look at these pics.
Which machine would you want sitting on your desktop?
Uh huh. And which machine would you want on your lap?
Hmmm. I see.
And recently, Apple broke into and all but took over the smart phone industry with the iPhone, boasting over 30% of the entire industry. There’s lots of choices in the market for smart phones. Which one would you like to be seen sporting around town?
Uh huh.
Even the hands free devices will help you be more productive. Which one do you want to have connected to your head?
Have I proven my point? If you want to be more productive than 90% of the population, join the 10%. Get a Mac. They’re better.
If you’re a Mac fan like me and you know other Mac fans that want to rub it into the Mac haters face, sent this article over to them.
If you’re a PC fan and you still haven’t been convinced that a Mac will make you happier, watch the Mac commercials below. They are hilarious and will illustrate that compared to PC users, Mac users are smarter, sexier, healthier, better looking, live longer, have more friends and are over all better people. And, feel free to make comments below the videos! Let’s get a good debate going. So far, I’m winning.

“I friggin’ love my PC!” (of course I never owned a Mac, so I do not know what I am missing)
I also love all the Mac comercials

LOL! That was so funny! You were the first to comment. Thanks a lot. But be honest. You don’t really love it. Your just glad to have it. And by the way, if you do ever go MAC, you will NEVER go back. C’mon man… drink the Kool-aid!
This is truly hillarious….wow. Have a PC also but use macs at friend’s homes. Got nothing bad to say about mac. This article makes me wanna buy one, lol.
Well, Chris, you may be right. When I bought my laptop, a friend advised me which was best – ‘compaq’ – I’ve had so many problems and ‘fixins going on’ and even then the problems got worse. I waste more time “waiting” for it to do something. So when I get ready to replace this P.C. I’ll take your well-learned advice. Thanks for sharing, You’re the greatest!

I am not even going to try to defend PC’s as of late – our family has been actively searching for the Mac we want and we will be making the move…
At first, I thought – there is no way that you can survive w/o a pc (all the programs and such) then last year my daughters teacher was carrying his mac around – which by the way all teachers pretty much now have – I asked him how he liked it and he said he loved it and again let me know it was virus and problem free – who knew…
However – several years prior the Hughes Bro’s were in the high desert and told us the story of their college experience with mac and let us know that when no-one else could get online – they did and we all know that must have driven the professor crazy to see that the mac kids were right. The point is even after all those years – 3rd party validation even with Mac is still KEY!!!
Looking forward to our Mac – Thanks for the insight and such a great websight…
Mr. Hughes I am amazed that you don’t get paid by apple, sometimes I wonder if you yourself were not built by apple, in your free time I am sure you would love to hang out at the apple store and answer comstumers questions about apple. I’m just giving you a hard time Mr. Hughes thank you for your helpd, I unfortunatly have a PC and right now I have 25 viruses on it and sometimes it turns blue and makes really lound noises like the emergenct alert systemes on tv and radio. Everyone in college makes fun of me for having Windows Vista and I am a regular at the our tech help center on campus. I have lost all my photos and music already once this year and I hope it does not happen again. Today I am nothing but a man with a vista laptop but on day I will own a house with everything apple.
Thank you Mr. Hughes
Mr. Hughes… Best.Article.Ever
Made me want to go buy a mac. Once again you sold me, and I still got the underlying message or the analogy so to speak..
Can I be in your downline? We can go recruit more people from the dark side of the force. I was thinking our team name could be renewed vision of freedom.
LOL. Don’t always believe everything you hear. ALWAYS two sides to every story.
Don’t believe all the Hype to all this “It Just Works” stuff. Here’s the “Other Side” of the truth Mac warriors don’t want you to know about:

Yep, truth hurts sometimes… but as they say… “The Truth will set you Free”.
Booya!

Yeah – Yeah, rub it in.
it has been a long time since I have heard such wonderful truth!!!
Hi Chris
I really enjoyed this article ! This should be on the first page on digg.com

Cute read but you did forget to mention that your brothers (at least two) of
them are poster children for MACS. LOL
But seriously my next computer just may be one.
Have a great day!
Chris,
I totally agree with you, I have been using a Mac for the ten years I have known Tony. I have never had it in the shop, I can do more, achieve more, learn faster, and have never had a virus, which I can surely say is not true with any PC I have. Anybody thinking about a MAC purchase, stop, just do it, you’ll never regret it, I know I haven’t. I just bought the new 3G I-PHONE and all I can say is WOW.
Thanks for your mentoring, it’s awesome

Mac is for people who dont know how to use a computer. They its kind of like having the latest and greatest phone but then dont know how to use any of its features. Pc’s are not the problem for they can be more superior to mac in so many ways. the problem isnt the pc its the operating system that sucks. windows is the worst software ever written. the problem is there is a better operating system out there just the majority of people dont want to take the time to learn it its called unix flavors include linux, redhat, or even freebsd which is a window type operating system. i have been running my pc for the last 3 years 0 viruses and 0 down time how is that possible you ask i try everything in my ability to stay away from windows products. the reason pc is better than mac is this main reason when you buy a mac that is all you get is what you bought. with a pc i can make so many changes to it that it becomes customized to me and my needs. I choose the platforms. I choose the devices. I choose what goes into my pc and i choose what items to upgrade and when. Mac does not allow you to do this. for people that just use their pc to surf the net or ask a very expensive typewriter are the people who should get Mac. you will also find that Musicians, engineers, and graphic designers use mac because the software written by mac is better than any software written that tries to work with windows and all its garbage. but freebsd users can use mac or windows software and they almost never get viruses and they usually learn to make themselves very secure form hacks and viruses.
LOL I HATE MY PC! I NEED A MAC LOL THIS WAS GREAT!
LOVE my iMac, and hating the new laptop my new job bought me. Started freezing up right out of the box. Typical.
Hey Chris,
Both MACs and PCs are fine. Some are better in some respects, others are better in others. However, if you are running a Mac, please don’t be under the illusion that your Mac cannot get viruses…get a virus program like McAfee, Norton or Kaspersky…like…now.
There are viruses for macs…and there will be more and more viruses, spyware, malware and adware written for them as they gain in popularity.
(By the way, I’ve been a PC user for a long time…never had a virus or anything else I’ve had to clean up off of my personal machine…its all about how you use them)
Anyway, funny article. One thing that Mac and Apple do WAY better than PC makers or Microsoft…advertising and marketing. That I wouldn’t argue with you about at all!
Have a good one!
Okay – okay – you make your point. Do I love my Gateway? NO – I hate it. It runs hot, givesme the blue screen of death on occasion…..That will be our first investment when I get my money back from Gateway. Know a good attorney that can help me with a defective product?
Hilarious – I think you contact Steve Jobs and be assimilated!
Great stuff!
Aun
The PC vs MAC comparison images at the beginning of this article are BOGUS. Not a fair comparison at any level. Shame on you! Showing the image of a 20 year old PC as compared to a new iMAC image. Comparing a 20 year old Motorola cell phone to an iPhone.
No wonder these silly arguments continue.
Fact, most PC owners don’t buy Macs because of the higher price of both the computer AND software. Thus more users gravitate to the path of least resistance… a PC.
Using the issue of virus infections is wrong as well. It implied the Mac is not capable of being infected by a virus, this also is wrong. They do exist.
Implying that Mac’s never have problems is wrong too. If this was true, there would be no service centers for Macs….. oh…. but there are.
As far as your title is concerned….. I think you take too much liberty. But hey…. your web site… your article. I will agree that a Mac can do a number of tasks better than a PC. But PC’s for the most, part excel in business and personal use because of it’s value. If it weren’t so…. why would Mac users need to comfort their egos with such blatant exaggerations?
I own a Mac as well as several PC’s. I also run Linux on my PC hardware. I notice Mac users rarely talk about Linux. I use PC’s mostly because of supporting business applications and needs. My Mac sits unplugged on the floor. I can use it when I want…. but mostly…. it sits there in retaliation and defiance to arrogant Mac lovers….. just because I can.
Cool article. I gave up on Macs years ago when it was difficult to get the latest and greatest software for them. It’s time to reconsider…
I am a MAC person and love the videos. A lot of the make perfict sense. I own a 20″ Intel iMac, running Bootcamp and Windows XPpro on the other side.
I love Leapard and all the cool features. I have 2 WEB sites on homespace, or whatever they are calling it now.
My only question is, why do I spend 90% of my time on the PC side?
Cause everthing I interact with is there? My job applications are there?
Email? All my bogs?
I’m not really sure. MACs sure are fun though.
Chris~ This is one of my favorite sites to visit! Thanks for all the great information for free! It is awesome! Love this article on Macs! I have converted from my PC’s to a macbook pro, i-touch, and I-mac! Love it!
I have thought about getting a MAC several times, but they are so much more expensive, and then to get the software & everything, I just wonder…is it really worth the extra money spent on one?!
Cassie
P.S. Thanks for the great P.D. website Chris (and all who are helping), and all the great trainning, information and inspiration!
Awesome hearing you speak on stage on jan 9th, 2010. Going through a massive learning curve!
Thank you sir for this wonderful website. Another bookmark to my personal development list. I already see myself meeting and shaking your hand Mr. Hughes!
Once you go mac, you can never go back. I purchased my mac july of 09. Haven’t had a single problem.
Ha! Hey Johnny. Sorry about the late reply! Yes! Go Mac and never go back!! What book are you reading now?
