Chris Hughes & Lamborghini Gallardo Spider

Last night, my friend Josh and I were coming home from a seminar. I was in the passenger seat and he was driving his brand new $260,000 Lamborghini. About half way home he pulled into a gas station, got out and told me to drive. And of course I did. I drove it for the next 30 miles. I don’t have a lot of words to express what that experience was like, but a few that come to mind would be, “a-friggin-mazing” and “bad to the bone!”

6 gears, paddle shifters at the wheel, no clutch, just letting it rip! And, of course I would never do this, because I am a law abiding citizen, but if I did do stuff like this, I would have gone 130 miles an hour down the 15 Freeway. If I were to have done something like that, oh my goooodness, that would have been an unbelievable thrill. I can only imagine. :) There are no words to express that raw testosterone and adrenaline that flows through the body while experiencing a boyhood fantasy in real life. And you gotta understand, I’m not even a car guy. I don’t know the first thing about cars, other than, dollar for dollar, Lexus is the best car on the road (that’s why I’ve bought 3 of them in the past few years), but other than that, I draw a blank. And even so, this was a very unique lifetime highlight. No matter how sophisticated a person becomes, this is an experience you deserve.

CAUTION: This experience might bring out some oppressed animalistic tendencies… trust me.

So, this brings me to my point. While showing the I-15 who was boss, I couldn’t help but think about who both Josh and I were just 8-9 years ago. He was a high school drop-out pushing a broom at a machine shop making $9 an hour. I was a college drop-out living in a near ghetto, waiting tables for $200-300 per week. And last night, we were ripping up the asphalt in a $260,000 car that was paid for, not with drug money. Both of us have multiplied our income 30, 40, 50 times or more over the last several years. And both of us would attest the thing that has made all the difference is our commitment to personal development. As Zig Zigler says, “If you will be hard on yourself, life will be infinitely easier on you.”

So if you want to know how to drive a Lamborghini, there are really only 4 ways to get it done.

  • Steal one and drive it
  • Rent one and drive it
  • Make friends with Josh or someone else who has one and drive it
  • Work on yourself harder than you do your job/business, become worth more, earn more, buy one and drive it

This entry is not really about driving a Lamborghini, unless of course, that is your burning desire. What it’s really about is getting what ever you want. You can substitute Lamborghini for whatever it is that you desire. The only way to have more is to become more. Les Brown said this:

“Contrary to popular belief, we do not get what we want, we get what we are.”

If you don’t like what you have, than you must change what you are. How? A methodical and systematic recipe for life change. We call it, personal development.

I encourage you, if you haven’t already, to read my entry How to Stop Failing, and Start Succeeding. It’s a great gateway into a life of success. In the meantime, I hope all of you get to drive a Lamborghini. Wow. Wow. Wow.

    Chris
I thought Chilies provided Lamborghini cars to all their servers. I was pretty sure you drove one when you lived with us at my house on Whitman.

Oh on right… I remember now… that was an 83 Toyota Hovercraft.

    Same difference right?
