Does God Want You To Be RICH?
11:23 am, July 30, 2008 by C.S. Hughes
James Ray, one of the now SUPER FAMOUS authors and success coaches who appeared on the wildly successful and controversial, grassroots movie, The Secret, recently wrote a very, very interesting article entitled, “Does God Want You to be Rich or Poor?” I’ve posted a portion of his article below, and have added a few thoughts of my own at the end.
“A recent edition of Time Magazine covered the ongoing debate between Christians regarding whether it’s “God’s will” for you to prosper or be impoverished. ”With Your Best Life Now by Pentecostal minister Joel Olsteen topping the charts at over 4 million copies, many fundamental Christians are up in arms. ”Olsteen states that ‘God wants you to prosper in all areas of life’ while some evangelicals like the bestselling author of The Purpose Driven Life, fellow mega-pastor Rick Warren, finds the very basis of prosperity ‘laughable.’ ‘This idea that God wants everyone to be wealthy?’ says Warren. ‘There is a word for that: baloney. ‘So, with each side of the house throwing philosophical and biblical rocks at each other, the question for us to ponder is, ‘which is right?’
The answer… Both.
“Understanding the fundamentals of consciousness, as well as the laws of the Universe, “God” wants whatever you want. ”No more, no less…………. ”
— Let me add some thoughts:
Regardless of whether or not God wants you to be rich or poor, we know for certain that humans are guided by their deeply held beliefs, or philosophy. Just as a boat is guided by a seemingly insignificant plate underneath it’s stern called a rudder, we too are guided by what we can’t see, our beliefs. You can’t see the rudder, and you cant see your beliefs, but both are there and have the power to take you to exotic locations, or crash you on the rocks. This is one reason why so many people in the world want wealth, but never get it. Their belief, or their rudder, is going in a different direction than what they actually want. No matter how close your desired destination is, the boat won’t take you there unless the rudder is turned in the right direction. (If you have a history of failure or mediocrity, you’ll want to take a good hard look at your beliefs.) Our beliefs are CRITICAL for reaching our desired destination. Our beliefs have a direct effect on our behavior. Our behavior, or our actions, have an immediate affect upon our results, whether our results be the creation of wealth or the acceptance of poverty. It looks something like this:
Beliefs —-> Actions —-> Results —-> Rich/Poor
You see, whatever you BELIEVE to be true, is true for you. And that TRUTH will guide all of your choices and actions, even if they are counter productive. So, if you believe that God wants you to be poor, or that money is evil, that belief system will act as an invisible rudder taking you further and further away from all things that can help you become rich. Even when presented with opportunities to get rich, you will spurn them away, think it’s “too good to be true,” or “a scam,” or you’ll let someone talk you out of going for it. Even if you go for it, your journey will be full of self-defeating behavior, and self imposed obstacles, which will undermine your success and ultimately cause you to quit your endeavor.
Beliefs —-> Actions —-> Results —-> Rich/Poor
Now what if you are like me, and millions of others, who believe God wants us to be rich, or at least wants us to have whatever we want that is good for us and others, whether that be riches or poverty. Here’s my philosophy, or my belief…my truth: “I am God’s unique creation, and as such, have been created for wealth and abundance.”
URGENT:
This is NOT something I just conjured up and hope to be true. That won’t work for you. We are NOT guided by what we hope to be true, we are guided by what we KNOW, or what we BELIEVE to be true. When I say, “I am God’s unique creation, and as such, have been created for wealth and abundance,” that is not something I want to be true. It is true! I really, really BELIEVE IT!
Beliefs —-> Actions —-> Results —-> Rich/Poor
And because I believe that God wants to prosper me, the actions I take lead me to that end. And if I do enough of those actions, I will have the results….. riches, in all areas of life.
Beliefs —-> Actions —-> Results —-> Rich/Poor
So what do you believe? Does God want you to prosper? Does God want you to be rich? Does he want you to suffer? Is money the root of all evil? Take some time to evaluate what you really believe about this topic, because whatever you believe is what you will have. If you have some incorrect and misguided beliefs, and want to get help correcting them, feel free to add a comment to this post below and I will reply. Remember….
Beliefs —-> Actions —-> Results —-> Rich/Poor
And for now, we will allow the debate to continue, whether or not God wants you to be rich. But let me just say this…. I have three children, and I want the absolute best for them. As our Creator, or our Father, would God feel much differently for his children? Something to think about.

Thank you for your insight Mr.Hughes. I too, belive God wants us to be wealthy- what is the definition of wealthy foremost?
Can you be wealthy in character and lack financially? or can you be financially well off in figures and be poor in character within?
Only God can judge these define lines, but suffering,ailments,worrying, etc does not produce positive long lasting effects!
It doesn’t take a doctor to tell you that worrying and stress are root causes of many diseases.
Ultimately these diseases lead to further worries and usually can be linked to pre-mature death [most people desire to live long lives-MOST]
NOw if we look at the opposite version of this example…
Faith, hope, love, are just bits and pieces of the Immense POWER that KEEPS YOU GOING.. FORWARD with LIFE… and isn’t living about LIFE?
when the door in your face is slammed shut, isn’t FAITH what keeps you knocking and looking for more doors to knock UNTIL YOU FINALLY WALK THROUGH— TO
success and wealth.. (whatever brins you joy,zest and the passion to live)
isn’t living this type of lifestyle what actually has others around you wondering,
“hmmmm, wonder what he/she is doing?”
and wouldn’t GOD want you to be a positive example.. after all, isn’t that how more people will come to find out about him?
I know GOd wants us to be wealthy… We only have one life to live and why, why , why does it have to end earlier than it needs to?
Why can’t we inspire others?
why just take and not give?
look up to understand within..
God bless you all!

Thankyou for bringing that topic up. I absolutely agree with your insight. Not to mention, that even though each of us have to go through the journey to get to the promise land…..
Most, don’t want to pay the price to get God’s true promise, it does take FAITH & TRUSTING HIM to keep moving, keep pressing forward, that surely it is God that gives us strength! He is always watching over His children, to see our faith of how much can we tolerate to keep calling upon Him?
Also, like you said earlier in Step 2/3, some people will choose to just blame God worst of all or to believe that God wants up to have limits & to just be POOR, because it is easier.
If He wanted us poor, how would we bless others, etc?
Thanks for your layout, that I believe is the 1st which is, your BELIEF.
Thanks for your insight Roza Elvir, you are right on point too!
And Mr. Hughes, My husband and I appreciate you SO much, you are in our testimony, and your a true mentor! God bless you and your family!
Can you help me?
I know the destination I desire and I know God’s power is unlimited, but sometimes I question if God does really want for me what I want for me. My only answer to myself is why not, but I need to know WHY.
I realize that my answer will mostly be found in prayer, but if there is any advice or books you would recommend for me, I would appreciate it.
Carol,
This is a simple one. How do you know know that God wants what you want? Because he is your Father. He has spiritually begotten you. As a parent, God is no different than us, in that he wants us to do well, feel well, serve well and follow Him. Money is not even an issue. But if you want it, and for the right reasons, why not?? Wouldn’t you give your children the things they asked for, if was good for them, if they showed over time how they really, really wanted it? That is an inborn desire in us. We got it from Him. We are a lot more like him than we would like to think. He is our FATHER. Believe!! And break free from those limiting beliefs. The best book on the topic is, The Prayer of Jabez. Incredible. Get it and God Bless.
I believe God means from with in and I definatley know that God wants me to be wealthy and live a prosperous life. We were not put on this earth to live under another mans hand. What the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve with the proper action.
