Hello my friends,

First of all, for those of you who are visiting my blog for the first time, I want to welcome you, and I hope you will feel at home here. For those of you who are returning, thank you very much. I am currently conducting a two-year experiment. It may go beyond two years, but you won’t know what the experiment is for at least two years. But if you will hang on tight, in the mean time, and even beyond, I will continue to deliver quality personal development content that will help you live a better quality of life.

Next, as many of you know, I have been writting a series called, How to Stop Failing & Start Succeeding. Currently, it’s 3 parts, with at least that many to go. But, as the title of this entry indicates, I must interrupt this program.  I am currently on vacation with my wife and my 3 boys. We are staying in Vegas tonight, en-route to Utah. So, my multi-part series of how to STOP FAILING & START SUCCEEDING will be placed on music hold until I return next Monday.

I will not, however, leave you hanging. I’ll give you some GREAT stuff to think about over the next few days, while I am doing a little R&R. Starting with this….

The real reason for my interrupting this program was because of the news I just got while surfing some of my peers personal development blogs. Randy Pausch, author of the near overnight bestseller, The Last Lecture, died this past Friday in his home in Virginia.

For those of you who don’t know, Randy Pausch was a very successful 47 year-old, computer science professor at Carnegie Melon University. He was married to his soul mate, who gave have him 3 beautiful children. He was fulfilled in his work and in his life. One day, he got the dreaded news. He was diagnosed with an incurable pancreatic cancer.

He was asked to give a speech at Carnegie Melon University that would in essence be his last lecture, and would spur an internet sensation, as well as a best-selling book, an appearance on Oprah, and, a lasting legacy to his name and what he was all about.

I first heard about him at a conference I was attending in DC on July 4th and 5th. I bought his book at the airport and read it from cover to cover on the plane flying back to So Cal. There is a part in the book, when he is concluding his lecture, and had everyone in the room (about 400 people) sing happy birthday to his wife, who was sitting on the front row. He then invited her up to stand with him. Crying, she embraced him, and whispered into his ear, “Please don’t die.” Oh my goodness! I cried out loud when I read those words! (Don’t hate manly men. Yes. I cry from time to time.)

Anyway, the book is incredible! His message is even better. He has left us with lots to think about. May he rest in peace.

If you have not seen his “last lecture,” you have two choices. If you have time on your hands, I highly recommend that you watch his actual last lecture at Carnegie Melon University. If you just have a few minutes, check out Oprah’s version. Both are available to watch below.

By the way, I know either one of these videos will get you thinking, so I recommend you read this entry after you view one of the videos below. What if Today Was the Last Day of Your Life?

WOW! What a noble speech! I actually DID grow up in NORTH DAKOTA, not under a rock, but had not heard of Randy. Thanks for sharing this wonderful life lesson! ~RJama Federal Way, WA
