Jump! Even if You’re Not Ready!

I am an entrepreneur. What that means, at least for most of us, is that I am an idea guy. I have ideas coming out the wazoo. (Is that how you spell that?) Naturally, I am a strong starter, but a lame finisher. I have started dozens of projects, that are sitting incomplete somewhere in my Macintosh (If it’s not a Mac, take it back!). But finishing has always been a struggle for me. And, I would say for most entrepreneurs.
For me, part of the challenge is wanting everything to be just right. Perfect. Wanting to foresee every possible curve in the road, before I attempt to navigate. Many call this “analysis paralysis,” which is analyzing so much that you paralyze yourself. I have allowed this to happen in just about every venture I have engaged in. Thankfully though, I broke through on some.
But, along my journey towards success, I stumbled upon a philosophy that says, “jump, even if you’re not ready.” Nike said, “Just Do It!” That’s great advice. And, on this project, pd4free.com, I’m taking it. I have been waiting to find the right web guy, waiting to find the right technology, waiting, thinking, planning, waiting, thinking, procrastinating. Meanwhile, my good friend Travis Alexander started a similar blog (travisalexander.net) and in just a couple of weeks, he has people from all over the world enjoying his good stuff. He told me just today, “I’m still not happy about the way it looks, but it will do for now.” There is wisdom in that statement. In other words, what he was saying was, “I wasn’t ready, but I jumped anyway.”
Though, I’d love to say otherwise, I am far from the best writer in the world. I would say my talent as a speaker far exceeds my talent as a writer. However, one of my goals is to be a best-selling author. And I am working toward that end. One of my coaches in the writing world teaches, “write for the waste basket.” This has been excellent advise. If you think you are writing for Hay House, you will scare yourself to death and never quite get it right. But if you are writing for the waste basket, who cares right? The important thing is that you get that genius out of your head and down on paper. Once the genius is out, any Tom, Dick or Mary can edit it and make it flow right. But only you, can get your genius out.
So, this blog, this entry, is my effort to get my genius out. The “blog” portion of pdforfree.com will only be about 10% of what will eventually be available. I’m still not ready, but I’m jumping anyway! I hope many of you will take this jouney with me.
Until next time…

This is exactly how I have always felt about my work. Even as a little kid, people viewed me as “lazy” and “unproductive”. The truth was that I never felt ready to reveal my ideas; they weren’t good enough, they weren’t PERFECT! Assignments were never started simply because I could not complete it in my head first. I would get so excited at first, thinking I had the perfect idea… but it was never good enough, not yet. This happened over and over. I was labeled a “slow starter”, a “late bloomer”.
Obviously, if you do not TRY, you do not DO! The habit was formed, and I began to believe the labels. I bought into what everybody else was saying. And ceased to listen to the genius within.
Today, though, is a new day! After a few successes, I’ve reopened that door that was closed to my hidden genius. I have reinstated the com-link, and am ready to “JUMP! even though I may not be ready”
